St. Kitts & Nevis Travel Guide
Adventure, Beaches, and Family Friendly Itineraries
If you’re trying to decide whether St. Kitts and Nevis are worth visiting, here’s the honest answer: yes but only if you know how to plan it right.
I just spent 10 days exploring both islands, and this wasn’t just a vacation. I toured resorts, tested activities, explored different areas, and paid attention to what actually makes a trip here worth it.
Some parts surprised me in the best way. Others? I’d absolutely do differently next time.
In this guide, I’m breaking down everything you need to know before planning your trip to St. Kitts and Nevis, from where to stay and what to do, to how to get around and whether it’s a good fit for your type of travel.

St. Kitts vs. Nevis: What’s the Difference?
St. Kitts and Nevis are two separate islands that make up one country, but they feel completely different.
-
St. Kitts is more developed, with more restaurants, resorts, and things to do
-
Nevis is quieter, more relaxed, and feels untouched in comparison
If you like variety, activities, and options, you’ll naturally spend more time on St. Kitts.
If you want a slower, more peaceful day, Nevis is 100% worth visiting.
My recommendation: stay in St. Kitts and plan at least one day in Nevis.
Is St. Kitts & Nevis For You?

Not every Caribbean destination is the same. Here’s who this one is actually a great fit for.
Families
St. Kitts works really well for families who want a mix of relaxation and light adventure.
You won’t find nonstop entertainment, but you will find ziplining, scenic viewpoints, and space to explore.
Couples
This is where St. Kitts and Nevis really shine.
Quiet beaches, boutique hotels, and more secluded resorts create a slower, more elevated experience.
Relaxation Seekers
If your goal is to slow down and unplug, especially in Nevis, this destination delivers.
It’s calm, uncrowded, and intentionally low-key.
Travelers Who Like to Explore
If you enjoy getting out and seeing different parts of a destination, St. Kitts is a great base.
Just know things are spread out, so having a plan makes a big difference.
Might Not Be the Best Fit If You Want
-
Everything walkable

-
A trip you can fully wing

Where to Stay in St. Kitts
Where you stay in St. Kitts will shape your entire experience more than you might expect.
This isn’t one of those destinations where everything is walkable or clustered together. The island is spread out, and different areas offer completely different vibes, from quiet and secluded to more central and active.
We stayed in Frigate Bay, which gave us a great balance of space, flexibility, and access to different parts of the island. But depending on how you like to travel, there are a few different directions you can go.

Luxury Stay
Park Hyatt St. Kitts Christophe Harbour
If you’re looking for a true luxury, slow, and elevated experience, this is it.
The Park Hyatt is more secluded, which means you’re trading convenience for peace, privacy, and a more polished resort experience. It’s the kind of place where you can fully unplug and stay on property for most of your trip.
Best for:
-
Couples
-
Honeymoons
-
Multi-generational families
-
Travelers who want a quiet, upscale experience
Good to know:
-
It’s about 25 to 30 minutes from most of the main areas
-
You’ll likely rely on the resort or plan your outings intentionally
I toured this property, and it’s absolutely worth considering if you want a more refined stay.

Resort + Amenities
St. Kitts Marriott Beach Resort, Casino & Spa
If you want a resort that feels more active and has everything in one place, the Marriott is a strong option.
This is where you’ll find multiple pools, restaurants, a casino, and a more social atmosphere. It’s also in a more central area, which makes it easier to explore the island.
Best for:
-
Families
-
Couples
-
Groups
-
Travelers who want options onsite
Good to know:
-
Larger property with more going on
-
Easier access to restaurants and nearby areas
This is a great “easy button” option if you don’t want to think too hard about logistics.

Condo/ Airbnb Style
Silver Reef
This is the route we took, and it gave us the most flexibility.
Staying in a condo allowed us to have more space, a kitchen, and the ability to move around the island on our own schedule. Frigate Bay is also a really convenient area to base yourself.
Best for:
-
Families
-
Longer stays
-
Travelers who want flexibility and space
Good to know:
-
You’ll want a rental car
-
Less “resort feel,” more independence
If you like having room to spread out and explore, this is a great option.

Where to Stay in Nevis
Nevis has a completely different feel from St. Kitts, and that shows in the accommodations too.
You won’t find large, busy resorts here. Everything feels more boutique, quiet, and intentional.
Some people choose to stay in Nevis for their entire trip, especially if they want a slower, more relaxed experience. Others (like us) visit for the day.

Luxury Stay
Four Seasons Resort Nevis
This is the standout property on the island.
If you’re staying in Nevis, this is where most luxury travelers gravitate. It’s beachfront, polished, and offers a full resort experience while still maintaining that relaxed Nevis vibe.
Best for:
-
Luxury travelers
-
Couples
-
Families who want a quiet resort experience

Boutique & Casual Stays
Golden Rock Inn
This is one of the most unique stays on the island.
Tucked into the rainforest at the base of Nevis Peak, Golden Rock Inn feels more like a private retreat than a traditional hotel. It’s quiet, design-forward, and surrounded by lush gardens, with individual cottages that give you a true sense of space and privacy.
You won’t find a typical beachfront resort experience here. Instead, this is where you come to slow down, disconnect, and fully lean into the natural beauty of Nevis.
Best for:
-
Couples
-
Design and boutique hotel lovers
-
Travelers looking for a quiet, nature-focused escape
Other Stays to Consider in Nevis

The Hermitage Plantation Inn (historic and full of character, more about charm than polish)
-
Mount Nevis Hotel (quiet hillside stay with beautiful views and a peaceful atmosphere)
-
Oualie Beach Resort (laid-back beachfront cottages, simple and casual island vibe)
Best Things to Do in St. Kitts & Nevis
St. Kitts and Nevis aren’t the kind of destinations where you just sit at a resort the entire time. The best experiences here come from getting out, exploring, and mixing a few different types of activities into your trip.
These are the experiences that are actually worth your time.
Scenic + Must-See Stops

Timothy Hill
The most iconic viewpoint on the island and an easy stop you shouldn’t skip.

Brimstone Hill Fortress
A UNESCO site with history and some of the best panoramic views in St. Kitts.

Black Rocks
A quick but dramatic stop where volcanic rock meets the Atlantic.
Experiences + Activities

Sky Safari Zipline
One of the best ways to see the island from above, with multiple lines and incredible views over the coastline.

ATV/Off-Road Tours
A fun way to explore parts of the island you wouldn’t normally reach, especially if you want something a little more adventurous.

St. Kitts Scenic Railway
A unique way to see the island, especially for first-time visitors, with coastal views you won’t get from the road.
Beaches & Chill Spots
If you’re planning to spend some time by the water, these are some of the best spots to relax, grab a drink, and enjoy the slower side of the island.

Frigate Bay
One of the most popular beach areas on the island with easy access, restaurants, and a mix of laid-back and lively spots.

South Friars Bay
A great mix of calm water and beach bars, with both a relaxed Caribbean side and a more active Atlantic side.

Pinney's Beach
A long stretch of soft sand with beach clubs, restaurants, and one of the best spots to unwind if you’re visiting Nevis.

Cockleshell Bay
A scenic beach with views of Nevis and a few solid beach bar options, especially good for a more relaxed afternoon.
Day Trip to Nevis
If you have the time, a day trip to Nevis is absolutely worth it. It’s quieter, more laid-back, and gives you a completely different feel from St. Kitts.

What to Expect
Nevis is noticeably slower and more relaxed than St. Kitts. It’s the kind of place where you spend the day at the beach, grab lunch, and move at a slower, more relaxed pace.
How to Get There
The easiest way to get there is by ferry. It’s a short ride from St. Kitts and runs throughout the day, making it easy to plan as part of your trip.
What to Do
-
Relax at Pinney’s Beach
-
Grab lunch at a beach bar or local spot
-
Drive around the island if you have a car
-
Keep it simple and don’t overpack your day
Is it Worth It?
If you like a slower pace and want to experience both islands, Nevis is definitely worth adding to your itinerary.
If you’re planning your trip, this is something we can easily build into your itinerary so it fits seamlessly into your time in St. Kitts.
Food, Drinks + Local Spots
Food is part of the experience here. Some of our favorite moments came from simple stops, beach bars, and local spots that weren’t overly planned.

Jamrock
Restaurant & Bar
A great spot for local flavors with a laid-back atmosphere and a more authentic feel of the island.

Four Ways Restaurant
A casual local favorite in Basseterre with solid food and a no-frills, authentic vibe. The second-floor view overlooking Basseterre is a bonus.

Arthur's Restaurant
A more elevated dining experience with beautiful views and a quiet, refined atmosphere.

Chill Beach Bar (Nevis)
Near the water with great food, drinks, and one of the best places to slow down and enjoy good food and drinks.
Some of our favorite stops weren’t planned ahead of time, so leave a little room in your itinerary to explore.

Visit Timothy Hill + one or two scenic stops

Stay on both St. Kitts and Nevis
-
Add more beach time and fewer structured plans
